Frame Buffer offer a great possibility: recover overexposures.
BASIC CONCEPTS:
- Use the 1° button to access “Color Correction” panel
- Use the 2° button to check overexposed areas
- Use the 3° button to activate Exposure control
- Move the black triangle to the left to reduce exposure (recovering overexposed area)
(This is possible because V-Ray Frame Buffer is a 32bit editor)
EXERCISE:
Download this SIMPLE SCENE | OBJ Version, open it and click render: You’ll get overexposured areas.
Then fix this problem using “Color Correction” panel.
Note:
Of course you can get the same result increasing Shutter Speed, but you need to render it again.
You can fix it without render again directly in V-Ray Frame Buffer.
(*) More functions will be explained later:Exposure is the main feature.
Amazing!
It is really very helpful the frame buffer. I admit that I have never used it because I could not understand its usefulness. I spend a lot of time trying to correct overexposed areas and wasting even much more time to render my scene again 🙁
I think it is going to be my best friend.
Thanks Ciro!
ahaha VIKOUM!!

Im learning day by day every step, and im lovin it more and more. Thanks ciro
Hi Ciro
Just wanted to ask you if all this image editing stuff could be done in photoshop.
I supousse photoshop is a great tool for fixing this kind of problems, isn’t it?
Of course, the possiblity to fix it inside 3dsmax speeds up the working process.
Thanks for the lesson, they great.
Juan.
Sure Juan!
I also like photoshop so much!
But you can also use curves in V-Ray to get a preview of what you’ll get with photoshop.
Or you can just improve a little bit the contrast without photoshop.
hi Ciro,
I wondering why my rendered image spotted some black color & for your info in my model image just white and blue colours for tested only…i’d tried to control color mapping, increasing subdiv in lighting in system/ material edit_ & adjust the camera speed/exposure still the same. All model originally from cad drawing. Please help me.

Hi Hadman!
In my experience I can say that imported models have a lot of thing to be fixed. It’s rare get a clean render with imported models… so if you didn’t anything to fix all lacks this is regular.
Ciao Ciro!!
This is great!! I’d never used the vray frame buffer before, I did not ralize the power of it!!
nomore wasting time guessing the right exposure doing test renderings.
Thank you!.
